Most Important Sermon of This Chapter

This passage was more than one line and Jesus is preaching, while dissing Nicodemus. Telling him that he, the Pharisee, a person who is rich and studies the religious laws that he is wrong and that God is about love and not law.  Now that he has done that, Jesus is reading ancient scrolls, written by Isaiah. Isaiah is what you call an oracle, I mean augur, no physic, wait no prophet. That's right. This is what Isaiah for told, " 'The Spirit of God is on me, the Nazarene reads in Hebrew, 'because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.' He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and the recovery for the sight of the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the Lord's favor' " (O'Rielly 130).

This is the most sermon in the chapter because in this reading Jesus (aka the Nazarene ) is proclaiming that he is the Son of God and that he can preform all of these miracles. He is saying that God personally sent him for those purposes. This is in front of a lot of people in a synagogue, including Pharisees who will now target Jesus and hate him for showing them up in their "place" on the Sabbath. that'd be like the President of Greece heading over to Italy and saying, "Hey, I now am the President of   Italy because the United States President said so." They would try and do anything they could to stop that change of power from happening. The Pharisees are going to now target Jesus and try to take him down.

SPOILER

You can't bring Him down, to you here what he's tryin' to say
You can't bring Him dooown.

Would you be a Pharisee or a folloer in this situation?

Dear Bill.....

Dear Mr. O'Rielly,

I have read all of your lates books expect The Last Days of Jesus, Kennedy, or Lincoln.  I found that your books were very insightful into the events of those assassisnations. Killing Jesus so far has been a little scaring and horrifying to my young mind, but I'll get over it. Sometimes I wonder, since people were so scandalous and revolting how have we come so far from that? Yes, I know that there are some people out there that are still like that, but I don't think that it would be to the extreme like Tiberius. At least I hope it's not or as they say,  "You'd better hide yo kids. Hide yo wife." Where would these people have gotten these horrendous iedas for execution and entertainment. I get chills just thinking abou tthose porr kids on Carpi with Tiberius. To have to do what he made them do then toss them off a cliff like a rag doll. Unacceptable. Why didn't one of his guards just push him off the cliff? Why was there no mutiny? Were people just not that smart? Maybe they didn't have enough money to educate themselves on the subject.

I thought on this since I mentioned it above, but I guess we have come so far from their type of actions because of Jesus. The people how don't know him are currently the ones who are acting like  Ancient Romans or  a not as intense Ancient Roman. I feel that Jesus set the standard for how to act and that the intensity level on killing and executions should be taken down 200 levels because it was way too high. He kept calm in situations where he could have gone ballistic or fought back,  but he didn't. Yes, the passover incident was a rare crack in his deminor, but are we ever perfect? No. We all sin and make mistakes and lash out it's alright we are human it's natural. What are your thoughts on this hoe do you think socitey has developed into better human beings?

I think that this book is full of good information and interseting even if it's scary at times. How long did it take you and Mike Dugard to collect all the information for your books? Was one imparticaluar harder than another? After you collected all the information was it really easy putting it into a  book?

Can't wait to finish reading!

Why I'm Reading Killing Jesus

I am currently reading Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly with the help of Mark Dugard. I chose to read this book because I really enjoy history. I thought it would be interesting to see hoe the artifacts and the writings from that time period line up with what events we think took place and how that lines up with what I and those of the Christian faith believe. I also chose to read this book because I have read his other books  Killing Kennedy and Killing Lincoln. I like these books because you learn a lot of things you didn't know about these historically famous events. For example, Lincolns bodyguard was supposed to be outside the door leading to the balcony where Lincoln was sitting but instead he was in the bar next door having a drink. Guess was in the bar with the bodyguard before the shooting.
If you guess one John Wilks Booth you have just won yourself a car!
Just kidding I don't have one to give away. In Killing Kennedy I learned that John was going to replace Lyndon B. Johnson as Vice President with his brother Bobby, but he died for he could run for his second term. Obviously. Therefore LBJ took over as President. The only reason he was VP in the first place is because Kennedy needed Texas in the election. The relationship between Bobby and Lyndon was a tense one. Let's just say the two would never be best friends ever.

Characterization of Romans and Tiberius

Coming into reading this book from prior knowledge I knew that the Romans were cruel people (well most of them anyway) but after reading about half of this book I have found it's much more than that.  I could characterize them ( mostly emperor's but not all) as atrocious, cold -blooded, merciless, heartless, inhumane, ruthless, vicious, power hungry people. I guess this in more general terms is more aimed at the wealthier portion of the Ancient Roman population but it probably applies to some of the lesser fortunate as well. In some cases the person in question is broken. But this does not excuse their actions. Yes, Tiberius I am looking at you. Well, no I'm not because you did horrfic things to childern that I can not mention because they are not appropriate. You have scared me.

It is time to tell the story of  Tiberius.
Once there was a boy named Tiberius he was the adopted son of Augstus Caesar. He was well educated and brought up in wealth. When he was about twenty he started to skillfully command armies. One day when he was home (Rome) from the war he met Vipsania , who too was wealth and noble, the two fell in love and got married and had a son, Drusus Julius Caesar, and lived happily ever after.

Haha. Yeah. No.

Vipsania got pregnant with another son. When Augustus heard about this here is what ensued.
"But Augustus cruelly intervened. I an act that would dramatically transform Tiberius, the self-proclaimed son of god ordered Tiberius to divorce Vipsania after eight years of marriage and wed Augustus's recently widowed daughter, Julia. When Tiberius argued against the divorce, he was ordered to be compliant or suffer harsh punishment. Devastated, Vipsania suffered a miscarriage. Tiberius distraught but obeyed the emperor. A short time later he accidentally ran into his beloved Vipsania on the streets of Tome and broke down, making a very public display by sobbing and begging for forgiveness. When news of the behavior reached Augustus, he demanded that Tiberius never again speak with Vipsania. And so died the human part of Tiberius. " (O'Reilly 112)

In this passage you see I'm not the only one who thinks that Romans are cruel . O'Reilly put it in words the best when he said that the human part Tiberius died because I feel that no human would do things this cruel and disgusting to other humans.

What would you do in Tiberius's position or Vipsania's?

Killing Jesus Setting Anaysis

The setting of Killing Jesus is in Israel during the occupation of the Roman Empire. This impacts the plot and history (these events really did happen) because yes, King Herod the Great had hundreds of people murdered because they threatened him more specifically his power. But, he was careful not to use crucifixion when doing so because, we reserve the cruelest punishments for the almighty Romans. No, it's because it was a Roman form of punishment. Herod did not want to upset the Romans, who unfortunately for the Israelites had put Herod in power because of his oh so great leadership skills.

Yeah. No.

If this book or events had not taken place Israel the story wouldn't have the same significance because Israel is where all the Jews went after they escaped from slavery in Egypt. Moses and other prophets of the old testament had prophesized about a messiah who would be the Son of God born to a virgin. It was a big deal for a Jew to claim they were the Son of God so if this scene had happened somewhere else it might not have the same effect. Here is what Jesus said, " 'Why were you searching for me?' he responds. There is innocence in his words. 'Didn't you know I had to be in my father's house?'"(O'Reilly 76)  Here Jesus stakes his claim in a temple in Jerusalem that he is the Son of God. This is a bold move because as O'Reilly would go on to explain this would be punishable by death. Not any kind of death though, oh no, you would win the prize of being stoned to death for making such a claim. Luckily, Jesus was not of age yet so he wasn't responsible  for his words yet. Therefore was not convicted blasphemy and pelted to death with stones.

How do you think the setting effects this book?

Bill O'Reilly was born September 10, 1949. Bill O'Reilly was born and raised in New York by his two parents. He then went on to college at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.  Bill graduated from college in 1971 with a history degree. He took that degree with him to Miami where he taught high school students for two years before returning to school. This time Bill O'Reilly attend Boston University and earned his masters in broadcast journalism.

This took his life in a new direction. Bill started out small broadcasting on local stations in Scranton, PA, Dallas, Denver, Portland and Boston. He then returned New York in 1980 getting his own program and became a news correspondent for CBS. After six years with CBS he moved over to ABC News. Bill spent three years with ABC in that time he received two Emmys. Do they even give out Emmys for news? That must be one of the last awards they give when everyone has already gone to bed. Bill also received two National Headliner Awards for excellence in reporting.

In 1989 Bill's career took another turn when he anchored Inside Edition. Bill stayed here for five years. While Bill was anchored on Inside Edition was rated the highest "infotainment" -I don't think this is a real word but.....- program in America. But, Bill left again because he could learn enough so he went back to school again. This time O'Reilly attended the highly prestigious, most sought after school that is so expensive you want to cry, you have to be like Albert Einstein to get in to. If you haven't figured out that I'm talking about the Harvard University you might want to get out a little more. This time Bill O'Reilly sought a masters in public administration. I don't know what he planned on using this for but he got it and graduated from this expensive and highly esteemed school.

After his Harvard experience Bill found a hoe at FOX News Channel. He got his own program called The O'Reilly Factor. This show talked about hot ticket issues with blunt commentary earning the name of  "The No Spin Zone". The O'Reilly Factor has been the highest rated cable news program since 2001.  He had a radio show called The Radio Factor  from 2002 to 2009.

As if he doesn't do enough he has written several non-fiction books like Killing Lincoln(2011), Killing Kennedy(2012), Killing Jesus (2013), The O'Reilly Factor(2000), No Spin Zone(2001), Those Who Trespass(1998), and he has written and book for kids called The Last Days of Jesus(2014).
Lastly, Bill and friend Dennis Miller-has a segment on the show called Miller Time- have a speaking tour called The Bolder Fresher Tour.

For tonight's edition of Pinheads and Patriots features Bill O'Reilly!
And form all  the information above we consider Mr. O'Reilly a patriot.

Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy have been filmed as television specials here are the trailers.

Killing Jesus Background Info

*WARNING TO FUTURE READERS CAN BE GORY AT TIMES*

This is a book about the events and life of Jesus of Nazareth leading up to his death and resurrection. This book is based on facts and what can be deduced when there are gaps in the story. You have Bill O'Reilly's word, "In writing of this fact-based book, Martin Dugard and I do not aim to suggest we know everything about Jesus. But we know much and will tell you things you might not have heard." Or want to hear they did some horrific things in those days. "Our research has uncovered a narrative that is both fascinating and frustrating. There are major gaps in the life of Jesus, and at times we can only deduce what happened to him based upon the best available evidence. As often as possible, we relied on classical works. Our primary sources are cited in the last pages of the books, Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy ,we will tell you when we don't know what happened or if we believe the evidence we are citing is not set in stone." (O'Reilly 2)

From what I have read of this book so far ,which has been up to this point background information is that King Herod has many issues mental and physical. The guy had his soldiers kill all of the babies in Bethlehem whatever way the pleased to make sure that Jesus was killed so he would not threaten to overthrow his power. He also had several physical issues like an inflamed toe, lung disease, kidney problems, worms, a heart condition, and other worse diseases I'd rather not describe and trust I'm totally doing you are a favor.  Then we transition into the history of Rome, specifically, Julius Caesar .  We start off with Brutus, guy is more of a back-stabber than you think and yes that was on purpose. Brutus insisted Caesar attend the senate meeting knowing full well the plot against Caesar.  Caesar was also aware of the plot but was not concerned since there had been so many against him.  Brutus lured Caesar by telling him the senate was going to crown him king of Rome. Then we learn how Caesar rose to power in Rome he started as a war general in Gaul. On the way back to Rome Caesar was suppose to disband his troops before crossing the Rubicon River but if course Julius being the stereotypical power hungry Roman  he is crosses the Rubicon without disbanding his troops causing a civil war in Rome. I think we all know who came out on top of that battle since you probably don't know who Pompey is.

Most important line in Chapter 3 in Lies that Bind

All eyes are on Kate and it's not because her pink hair is starting to fade. Last year, her best friend, Grace died in a mysterious fire in the chapel on the ground of their prestigous private school, Pemberly Brown. Jus like all the books and movies with this basis she ventures to find what really happend while reciving messages from the dead best friend. But, today is the memorial service where, "People would whisper excitedly about wether the broken best friend would come." (Roeecker 9) Rich people. *eye roll* Anyway, at the end of this service everyone gets a text to meet at the graveyard at dusk for Obsideo, a sacramentum at Pemberly Brown, where they read a list of all the dead Permberly Brown alumini. Kate has deiced she wasn't going until.....

"On page 56, Grace's handwriting was clear as day, orange and bubbly like always.
Someone has to rembemer." (Roecker 28)

This is important because Kate believes that this again is Grace telling her to go to the Obsideo to catch the culprits that killed her. This pushes Kate to go to the Obsideo because before she wasn't going to go. This will also propel the plot because Kate gets these messages from "Grace" to help her uncover the secrets behind Pemberly Brown and to figure out everything behind her death and an ancient interschool feud that started when Pemberly Brown first merged.

What do you think will happen at a midnight party full of teenagers mourning the death of a peer?
Oh did I mention this is in the winter in a GRAVEYARD????

Looking For Something to Read? Check this Out!

Summary

My Life Next Door is about a seventeen year old girl, Samantha Reed. She has lived next door to the Garretts for ten years, but has never spoken to them just watched. Her mother, the senator of Connecticut, is up for re-election. Sam's mom, Grace, is very OCD and very rule oriented, she likes routine. She told her girls, Tracy and Samantha, from the day the Garretts moved in to stay away from them. The Garretts are definitely nothing like the Reeds. They have eight kids instead of two. They always have people over and are a loud tight knit family. But, one day one of those eight kids changes everything. Jase, the third oldest, climbs up to sit with Samantha on her roof. This sparks a friendship, which may lead to something more. Follow Samantha on her crazy and fun filled summer with the Garrets.

Review
I loved this book! Yes, the whole premise is cliché "guy meets a girl and they fall in love over the summer" but in my opinion it was really well done. I think the way Samantha fit into the Garretts family so well was great. But, I need a minute to talk about George.

Spitting out random facts that sometimes go along with what's being said sometimes not so much;adorable and intelligent four year olds like Jase’s Little brother George are one of a kind," It's George, now wearing boxer shorts but no shirt. He comes over and plunks down on the bed, looking at me somberly. 'Did you know that the space shuttle Challenger blew up?'
I nod. 'A long time ago. They have perfected things so much more now.'
'I'd be ground crew at NASA. Not on the shuttle. I don't ever want to die ever.'
I find myself wanting to hug him. 'Me neither, George.'
'Is Jase already going to marry you?'
I start coughing again. 'Uh. No. No, George. I'm only seventeen.' as if that's the only reason we aren't engaged.
'I'm this many,' George holds up four slightly grubby fingers. 'But Jase is seventeen and a half. You could. Then you could live in here with him. And have a big family.'
Jase strides back into the room, of course, midway through the proposition. ' 'George. Beat it. Discovery Channel is on.'
George backs out of the room, but not before saying, 'His bed's really comfortable. And he never pees in it.'" ( Fitzpatrick 35-36)

If you read this and did not think George is A) adorable B) funny C) the cutest thing ever or D) all of the above

I don't know what to say to you,but I digress. I really liked almost all the characters in this book.  Even though Jase, Samantha, and Grace, Sam's mom, were the more prominent characters to this story you got to know all the characters. Even the characters you don't like *cough* Clay and Nan *cough*.
I really liked that this book was very realistic fiction. Sam had summer jobs, Jase worked at his dad's hardware store, the way Clay ran Grace's campaign. Jase and Samantha babysitting the younger Garrett crew. Going to the beach . Jase's ridiculous training routine for football. The fact that Grace was never home because of her campaign and how Samantha was mentally complaining about having to go to her mom's events and wondered if the other sons and daughters of political leaders felt like she did. The gripe I  have with this book is that Samantha's friend, Nan, fell off the face of the Earth after their fight, I needed some closure on this.

I believe since this is more of a romance novel that it would be more targeted towards girls, but anyone who enjoys a good love story and family should pick this book up.

If you liked this book check out Huntley's website for more information on her current and upcoming books!

1st Post of the Third Trimester- Allegiant Book Review

Summary

I am nearly finished with the book Allegiant by Veronica Roth.  In this book Tris and Tobias have finally shown the people of  Chicago the "truth" by releasing the Edith Prior video. This video told them that they were part of a genetic experiment to find a cure to "damaged genes".  The Bureau of Genetic Welfare set this experiment up because of what was known as the Purity War between those who were genetically "pure" and those who were genetically "damaged" which devasted the United States. The Divergent are supposed to come to the Bureau when there numbers are large enough. The Divergent are supposed to be genetically "pure".  After the release of the video and the fall of Jeanine Matthews and the Erudite a new dictator came to power. Evelyn Johnson, Tobias' mother, and the factionless.  They want to destroy the factions and make sure that there never are factions again. She has forbidden Tobias and the Divergent from leaving Chicago (although they don't know they are in Chicago) to follow the instructions that Edith Prior-a relative of Tris- has given to them in the video.

A group called the Allegiant have formed to rebel against Evelyn and the factionless. This group along with Tris and Tobias orcastrate a group to go beyond the fence into the outside world. On the way to the Bureau the group lose a member. Upon arriving though they find that not all their friends they once thought to be dead are.  After exploring the compound they find that they have been watched by the Bureau their whole lives and they place they once called home is called Chicago. They learn that there are other experiments just like thiers. Tris meets David the director of the Bureau and learns that her late mother lived her and had volunteered to enter into the Chicago experiment and is handed her journal to look over. She also meets Matthew a scientist who would like to examine her and Tobias' genes since she has the power to resist serums and is aware during simulations, as well as Tobias.  Which leads to some unforseen information. Here we also meet Nita, she is a GD (genetically damaged). She asks Tobias to come and meet her at night so she can show him something. Tobias obliges but just as they arrive to the destination Marcus' verdict has been decided and Tobias rushes to see what his mother has decided to do with his father. Tobias is suprised by her decision. Tobias agrees to meet Nita again and she asks him to come with her to the Fringe. This is a place where the GD'd live. It's a rough and scary place that she thinks he should see, but she also recquires his protection.

Once at the Fringe, Tobias witnesses a boy being beaten to death. Once the boy was dead he was then robbed. Nita brought Tobais in and introduced him to the leaders Rafi and Mary. Immediately after Nita dismisses him to discuss matters with the other two. Nita instructs Tobias not to inform Tris of what he has seen, heard or of the meeting they have just returned from. Tobias not wanting to go back on the promise they made to each other at the beginning of the book to not lie to one another any more tells Tris what is going on. Nita is now forced to bring Tris in on the plan to steal the memory serum- this serum erases peoples memories- from the Weapons Lab.  Tris  doesn't trust Nita. She voices this to Tobias, but he feels he must help the GD's and agrees to be apart of the plan.

The plan is put into motion soon after. Tris was near one of the explosions when the attack started and so was another member of the original group. They received major injuries and now are in critical condition. Tris wants to go find Tobias but she knows there is a bigger issue. Nita. She and Matthew proceed to the Weapons Lab where David is being held at gun point to open the Weapons Lab. Tris must decide how she will defuse this situation.  There are several civilian injuries and casualties as a result of the diversion -the bombs- going off across the compound.  Tobias has been arrested along with his other accomplices.  They are each interrogated, but Tobias was let off on parole for one year because of his "condition" and the fact that Nita had told him that she was stealing the memory serum not the most dangerous serum in the weapons lab.

After this Tris and Tobias avoid each other. Tobias feels guilty about the attack he didn't think he would be hurting any of his friends or civilians. But he also felt guilty because Tris had warned him but he had ignored her when she had been right the whole time. Meanwhile, Tris was summoned to David's office. David survived the attack with a shot to the foot and losing the ability to walk for a long time. He asks Tris to train to become a council member or one of his advisors. She accepts with other plans in mind.

After this Tris takes her trip to the Fringe to see what its like. Upon her return she looks into things that the Bureau may have twisted to make the genetically "damaged" look even more inferior to those who are "pure".  She finds that they were lying about it.  She then calls a meeting with her friends to create a rebellion that would be effective but not as destructive as Nita's. Since Tris is in a high position they agree to wait until she has sat in on the council meeting before they make any concrete plans.

But while Tris was gone at  the Fringe, things in Chicago have developed. A new unexpected alliance among the Allegiant has sprouted. The Allegiant have also captured some on Evelyn's weapons. But what they don't know is that Evelyn has discovered some of what Nita was after.

In the meeting Tris learns that Evelyn has found this dangerous weapon in Chicago.  David has a way to defuse the situation but it would mean starting all over. He can't risk Evelyn using something that dangerous or a war breaking out because the government has already threatened to shut the experiments down. This just fuels Tris'  motivation  to take down the Bureau.

Will Tris and Tobias' group succeed in their rebellion for equal rights and save their home?

Review
The kind of reader that would enjoy this book is someone who likes action and adventure. Their is some romance but not a ton. Someone who likes stories about rebellion and struggles for equality and overthrowing an unjust government. This book is good for both boys and girls. It's not too much action or romance to be targeted at one group or the other.

I would give this book a 4 out of  5  stars. This is because I liked the storyline. But I felt like the pacing was so slow at some parts and then you would hit sections where things were occurring one right after the other or simultaneously. They characters are very well written though they develop for good or worse through the book and the series. I liked how it was set in the future and how they still have all the technology and big cities , but you can see how things have changed. Cites are damaged from the Purity War and there are no major cities in the west because they are too far apart and it is now known as the Wild. I also like that Veronica Roth sprinkles humor after some serious or really tense parts.
Again the only real problem I had with this book was the pacing.
